The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) is a media development organization engaged in the following activities: producing radio and online programs; media reporting on news websites and social media platforms; training of journalists and aspiring journalists, promotion and training on media and information literacy; training and networking with citizen journalists, and advocacy on media-related rights.

Position        : News Editor

Location          : Phnom Penh

Work Status    : Full Time

Report to         : Editor-in-Chief

Job Summary:

The News Editor is responsible for leading news reporters and editing daily news, features, news analysis and investigative stories in accordance with VOD’s Editorial Guideline

Duties:

  1. Edit various types of news articles
  2. Edit daily news, feature, investigative stories, news analysis, and MC produced by reporters and interns in accordance with editorial guideline
  3. Support and give feedback reporters and interns to produce stories on time
  4. Other editing tasks assigned by editor-in-chief or media director 
  5. Lead reporters and intern
  6. Lead editorial meeting to get story ideas
  7. Monitor Reporter/Sub Editor to produce quarterly performance reports for sending to editor-in-chief
  8. Provide guidance to interns and fellows on news writing and reporting skills
  9. Work as master of ceremony (MC)
  10. Work as an MC when needed
  11. Read all MC contents before going on air
  12. Ensure reading is clear and follows direction
  13. Take feedback from news editor or MD after recording
  14. Facilitate Khmer and English Teams
  15. Facilitate Khmer team when English team asks for verifications and more information
  16. Edit Khmer Articles Translated from English ones
  17. Prepare Monthly Report of his/her work performance
  18. Prepare and submit report of performance
  19. Send the report to Editor-in-Chief once every three months
  20. Other duties as required

Job Requirement:

  • Cambodian national. Women are encouraged to apply.
  • Degree in Journalism, media or other related field
  • At least last 3 experiences in the position of news reporter
  • Proven skills or experiences in producing breaking news, straight news, feature, and news analysis is a plus
  • Good interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Good computer literacy in MS Office programs, Khmer Unicode and Adobe Audition
  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English
  • Effective use of social media networks, internet and email for research and investigation
  • Wide understanding of social issues and capable of critical thinking and discussion
  • Able to work overtime, on holiday or on weekend, and to travel to the provinces as required
  • A passionate and energetic team member with a genuine interest in working to develop independent and professional media, promote human rights and democratic governance
